Car Accident Help - What Our Clients Expect

When we represent a person injured in a car accident we have a duty to our client.  The main thing we stress to our clients is that they receive medical treatment for their injuries.  This is in contrast to the quick settlement that the insurance companies will be asking them to accept.  Our clients have to take us on faith that what we are asking them to do, forego a quick settlement and be treated by a doctor, will be for their ultimate benefit.

Initial Aches and Pains Versus Ultimate Injury

Accidents cause injuries.  Initially, injuries may be disguised by adrenalin, excitement, and the hopeful belief that nothing bad has happened.  It is those factors that insurance companies rely on for quick injury settlements.

We ask our clients to see a doctor - we even find them doctors close to their homes if they do not have their own preference.  We ask our clients to forego the quick settlement and trust us.  It takes time for the true injuries to manifest and for a doctor to treat those injuries

Even Seemingly Minor Injuries Can Turn Into Long-term Problems

Feeling bruised up may lead some clients to believe that their injuries are minor.  How often have we all overcome bruising without medical treatment, right.  But remember, the bruising received in a car accident is caused by 2-3 thousand pound vehicles slamming together violently.  The injuries you've received are temporarily masked by your bodies output of chemicals to dull the pain.

Back and Neck Injuries

The violent collision of vehicles often cause injuries to back and neck vertebrae.  Like a stack of Legos, one on top of the other, if one is knocked out of kilter the entire line suffers.  This type of injury will take x-rays (possibly an MRI) to determine the injury's extent and treatment to correct.

A quick settlement requires our clients to waive the insurance companies liability for all future injuries arising out of the accident.  This means the latent back or neck injury - when it surfaces - will not be covered by the insurance our clients paid money on for years.  We won't let that happen.

Things to be thinking about if you are involved in an accident

Where did the accident occur?  Were the police called?  Was a report filed?  Did you exchange insurance information? Have you contacted your insurance company?

Those are some initial questions we will need to know.  In addition, we will need to see the following if you have them - if not, we can still help.

  • Name of insurance carrier and policy number.
  • Name of family doctor if you have one.
  • Name and policy number of health insurance.
  • List of all injuries sustained in crash.
  • Accident report.
  • All traffic tickets given to you.
  • Name of other driver's insurance company.
